I correct last week a problem that may give this situation.
This is because in some case the mouse message arrive in wrong sequence to the program. The main effect is the chart to jump to another part of the sky, but this also produce the message you have because of the use of uninitialized object.

Please try with the last beta 3.11 that correct this problem and report if this work:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/skychart/files/0-beta/2014-05-12/

The fix is 2901:
http://sourceforge.net/p/skychart/code/2901/

You never need to use administrator privilege to run Skychart.

Tried with the 3.11-svn-2901 but the problem persists and the behaviour is the same.

So there is probably something wrong in your configuration file.

Use the menu File / Reset chart and options, check "Reset initial default and restart".

This clear all your setting, please make a copy of the file skychart.ini before to reset if you want to save some important setting.
