| Steps To Reproduce | What can be really useful is if someone with a Vista problem can get the Delphi compiler and VMA source code from Sourceforge to run a debug session. I can help with the installation and eventually run a remote session to your computer. Contact me if you can help with that. | ||||
| Additional Information | I run myself VMA on a variety of Vista system without any problem. - Celeron 3.06GHz, Intel 82915 - Celeron 3.06GHz, Nvidia 6600 - Core-Duo 1.86GHz, S3/VIA Chrome 9 - VMware virtual machine - Celeron 3.06, VMware graphic - bi-Xeon 3.66, VMware graphic Please try the following files: testOpenGL : try each of the three .exe to test OpenGL functions on your computer. If your driver provide convenient acceleration the frame rate must be many hundred. vmatest2 : VMA recompiled with the latest version of the OpenGL library. | ||||

Message from "ca_ridgway" on Virtualmoon maillist: Subject: Not Responding under Vista I have Virtual Moon Atlas installed under Vista and it runs fine, until I try to shut it down. It refuses to shut down and Vista ultimately tells me the program is not responding and lets me kill it. Is there something I need to tweak to get it to work properly on Vista? From: "mbrown" I have VMA Pro version 3 on CD. Last night I installed it on my new Vista laptop. Two problems were encountered 1)everything works great except the actual Moon image is not there. Clicking on various areas produces the information re that feature, the pictures are also available, etc. 2)The same problem as you are having occured a few times. So far, I have not had time to see if I can figure something out. If I do, I'll be sure to post. Hopefully, someone else has a solution. From: "ca_ridgway" I am just getting back to start working through this thread (when I should be doing other things so this might be brief). My Machine is a Sony Vaio VGN-FE890 Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 @ 1.66, 1.67 MHz Intel T7600 233 GHz driver 6.0.6000.16386 2046 MB RAM 32-Bit OS NVIDIA GeForce 7400 driver 7.15.10.9746 Generic PnP monitor 6.0.6000.16386 Monitor resolution 1280x800 maximum colors Windows Experience Graphics 3.6/Gaming 3.2 From: "albino3000" Hi to all, I have a similar experience with Windows Vista and a graphic card nvidia GeForce Go 7600. I have installed the version 3.0 (from CD) and the upgrade to 3.5 of Virtual Moon Atlas and the software work fine but refused to exit. It is necessary to kill it. |

Private message from Ralph Rogge: I've installed VMA Expert 3.5 on Windows Vista. While the program runs perfect I've actually a problem leaving it - I can exit the light version but the basic and the expert versions both are hanging on exit. Any clue on this issue? Some aditional infos: Widows VISTA Version 6.0.6000 Build 6000 Prozessor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5300 @ 1.73GHz, 1733 MHz, 2 Kern(e), 2 logische(r) Prozessor(en) Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 > Can you inactivate one core in the computer BIOS to run a test with a > single core ? Patrick, I've disabled the multicore option in my computer's BIOS. I then could start and stop VMA without any problem. |

Private message from Steffen Mühlhöfer: i´ve installed the VMA 3.5 on my notebook with Windows Vista, as you told at your website. But after installing, I can open the program, but I see no picture or texture! By the way: I´ve done the same with Windows XP on another computer and everything works fine. |

testOpelGL.zip works fine for me. |

VMA need to write files under the installation directory. Vista as a trick to allow non-admin to do that, the VirtualStore in the user profile. This was activated in all Vista install I see until now but this can also be disabled. If I disable this option and run with a non-admin user I can reproduce a number of the described problems, the exact behavior depend if you run or not the program as administrator before (it run as admin if you check "Run now" at the end of the install process). Please open the Control Panel , click Classic View on the left. Open Administrative Tools. Right click Local Security Policy , and select "Run as administrator" from the popup menu. Validate the execution or enter an administrator password if required. Open Local Policies / Security Options Near the end of the list check that the following option is enabled: "User Account Control: Virtualize file and registry write failures to per-user locations" If not, enable this option, press OK, log off you account and reconnect to get the new value. If you cannot change this value this is probably because you use a secured corporate computer, ask your administrator to do it for you. |

Private message from Steffen Mühlhöfer: my problem with VMA and Vista is fixed. I´ve tried to put the colors of the grafics in Vista (Intel GMA950) to 16Bit - and the thing worked. If it would be possible to run the programm at 32Bit, it would be more convenient anyhow. Perhaps you can make it. |

With one of the latest patch the exit from VMA works seemless. I don't know whether a Vista or a graphic card driver patch made it work. iRalph |

Version Pro 4.0 or Expert 3.5b solve all Vista issues by separating user modifiable component to the user profile (%APPDATA%\virtualmoon) Also at this time the graphic drivers for ATI, Intel, Nvidia cards are now stable on Vista. Be sure to upgrade to the latest drivers. |
